Yes that's the whole point ,period.
I still believe that win's overtakes all else in Nascar ,as it does in every sport,championships are basically meaningless mostly.A champs tenure in Nascar is about two months or less then the new season starts and no one really remembers or cares . Yes there is talk about Jimmie Johnson winning five championships in a row ,but even if he wins eight or nine trophys ,which he most likely will, the base fans are always going to come back to support there case of the greatest in Richard Petty with 200 wins and David Pearson at 105 Beat them! Win WinWin.Races.Not Trophys.
What we call the old point system as of this month ,I do not believe was so hard no one could keep track, I never had trouble and the base Nascar fans I know never did and it gave a proper scoring especially between first place and second with 15 points ,a little emphasis on wins there .It also had a good sliding schedule .
Giving one point between the winner and second is telling the winner that second ,third and so on makes you no better because you won, then all the losers,think that would work in the NFL ? Nope's the answer.
The Chase was started because Matt Kenseth won the championship with the less wins and more points ,it all went by points the chase does the same only five drivers out of 12 had wins going in and basically stayed the same .
The new system to be entered in the chase is worse ,it goes by points not wins ,the top ten in points will be in the chase and two drivers with the most wins in from the top twenty So having wins mean nothing you must lead in points,which we know that some, thats -some, will have wins ,big deal ,get the points by riding the races out and youre in.
The points have to have a larger spread between the winner and second and third and on,winning means everything to all especailly the fans ,we dont come to the races or watch on tv to see a driver just drive around a track.
Nascar needs to bring back the 1975 points and revamp the chase making it as to every winner is in the chase be it four or fifthteen wins ,ill summit to stopping out of the top twenty, if wins dont fill twelve places then use points,no wins,leaders to fill the vacancy.
Thia new system does not emphasis winning ,just driving around.
