Sour Cream Dips at The Glen with a lap of 69.767 seconds, 126.421 mph, a new track record. Previous record was held by Jeff Gordon with a speed of 124.580 mph (8/10/2003). This is his eighth pole in 244 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races. This is his first pole and eighth top-10 start in 2011. This is his first pole in seven races at Watkins Glen International. A J Allmendinger (second) posted his ninth top-10 start of 2011 and his second in four races at Watkins Glen International. Marcos Ambrose (third) posted his second top-10 start at Watkins Glen International. It is his sixth in 22 races this season. Andy Lally (36th) was the fastest qualifying rookie.
