DOVER, Del.—Kyle Busch finished sixth in Sunday’s AAA 400 at Dover International Speedway—his best result in three Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup races this year—and trimmed his deficit to the Chase lead to 15 points.
On the negative side, Busch dropped two positions in the Chase standings. Still, he’s back in contention for the championship.
“It’s deceiving, because you shave points off, but then you lose two spots,” Busch said. “It’s all right—it’s the margin. You’re back, which is all that matters. We’re still in the thing, so you keep fighting and keep doing what you know how to do and hope that your Michigan setup works pretty good at Kansas (next Sunday).”
Busch won at Michigan International Speedway in August. He hasn’t finished in the top five since, a stretch of six races.
Busch finished 22nd in the Chase opener at Chicagoland and 11th last week at New Hampshire. He finished 21st in last year’s Chase race at Kansas and 12th there in June.
