NASCNASCAR awards second Nationwide race to Kentucky Speedway

(October 14, 2011)
NASCAR awards second Nationwide race to Kentucky Speedway

With holes to fill in its Nationwide Series schedule, NASCAR awarded a second date to Kentucky Speedway, which will host five NASCAR events in 2012.
Three of those races will take place on a tripleheader weekend in late June, with the UNOH 225 Camping World Truck Series race scheduled for June 28, the Feed the Children 300 Nationwide Series race set for June 29, and the Quaker State 400 Sprint Cup event scheduled for June 30, one slot earlier on the schedule than the inaugural Cup race at the speedway this year.
The remaining truck and Nationwide races will take place Sept. 21 and 22, respectively. The new Nationwide date fills a vacancy that arose when Kentucky Speedway and the IndyCar Series were unable to negotiate a renewal of their current contract.
Access to the track and parking were major issues during the Cup weekend this year, but the speedway has taken measures to relieve the congestion that prevented thousands of fans from getting to the race on time—or at all. There’s a new 140-acre field that affords free parking on the east side of the track. A 42-foot-wide pedestrian tunnel will connect the parking area to the track. There also will be changes to access roads, including Interstate 71
