Rumors continued to swirl around the immediate and long-term future of driver Kyle Busch Thursday as Joe Gibbs Racing officials planned their weekend schedule.
Silence dominated at JGR headquarters Thursday, and there was no confirmation from the team that Busch would drive the No. 18 car, his regular ride, in Sunday’s Kobalt Tools 500 at Phoenix International Raceway.
The Associated Press reported that Denny Hamlin, also a JGR driver, will replace Busch in the season-ending Nationwide Series race at Homestead-Miami Speedway next week.
Team officials apparently were in discussions with sponsor representatives Thursday about Busch’s future. Officials did not respond to Thursday requests for information about the weekend.
