NASCAR CAMPING WORLD TRUCK SERIES
Peters On Point At Iowa
This weekend could be good news, bad news situation for Timothy Peters and his Red Horse Racing team. Peters’ biggest test of the season could come Saturday night at Iowa Speedway. In three previous starts at the .875-mile oval, his best finish is eighth in the inaugural event followed by two finishes outside the top 10.
However, he finds himself in familiar territory. For the second time this season and seventh time in his career Peters holds the top spot in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series championship standings following a top-five run at Kentucky on June 28.
In eight races, Peters has finished inside the top 10 in seven of them, an 11th-place finish in Texas is his lowest finish of the year. Despite still searching for his first win of the season, the North Carolina native is off to the best season of his career. He currently leads Justin Lofton and Ty Dillon by four points each followed by James Buescher and Parker Kligerman.
Crafton, Sauter Hope Momentum Sticks Around In Iowa
After a less-than stellar start for pre-season championship favorites Johnny Sauter and Matt Crafton it appears the ThorSport Racing duo have turned a corner. Separate crashes at Daytona and part failures in Martinsville resulted in back-to-back finishes outside the top-20 to start the season and created a deep climb for both in the championship standings.
But Texas provided some needed momentum for the Ohio-based teams. Sauter led 41 laps en route to his fifth series victory while Crafton finished a close second. Another solid run followed in Kentucky with sixth- and fourth-place finishes respectively. Crafton heads into Iowa as the defending race winner and would like nothing more than to add a "W" in the win column. However, his biggest threat could be his teammate. Sauter is the only driver to finish inside the top-five in all three races held at Iowa Speedway.
NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Etc.
The American Ethanol 200 will mark the first of two truck series events held at Iowa Speedway this season. … Sunoco Rookie of the Year leader Ty Dillon hopes to follow in his older brother Austin’s footsteps in the Hawkeye State. The 2011 NCWTS champion scored his first series victory in 2010 at Iowa Speedway. Ty Dillon won last year’s ARCA race which shares the bill with this week’s American Ethanol 200.
