The Budweiser Duel qualifying races, which help determine the
starting lineup for the Daytona 500, will move to the nighttime for
2014.
The races, which begin at 2 p.m. today, traditionally have been held
on Thursday afternoon prior to the Daytona 500 at Daytona International
Speedway.
Next season they will be run on Thursday night under the lights in
prime time. Fox Sports has the rights to the telecast, which it has been
shown on its Speed network in recent years.
“To earn a coveted starting spot in the Daytona 500, the stars of
the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series will have to perform under the lights and
in front of a prime-time audience in the Budweiser Duel,” Daytona
International Speedway President Joie Chitwood III said in a statement
released Thursday.
