DAYTONA SPEEDWAY UPDATES

Repairs to a section of catch fence at Daytona International Speedway damaged by airborne parts of a race car on Saturday were completed by 2 a.m. Sunday, Speedway officials said this morning.Fans, officials and teams are ready to go racing today and the Daytona 500 is scheduled to begin as planned at 1 p.m.

As the Daytona 500 roars on at the Speedway, clouds will blanket the area and there will be a chance of showers Sunday.According to the National Weather Service in Melbourne, expect a mostly cloudy day, with areas of fog before 10 a.m. and high near 75. Winds will be out of the southwest at 5 to 15 mph, shifting to the northwest this afternoon. There is a 40 percent chance of rain.

Michael Annett has been released from the Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach, Fla., following a wreck in Saturday's Drive4COPD 300.Annett was transported to the hospital after complaining of pain in his chest and sternum after being caught up in a multicar accident on Lap 116. A total of 13 cars were involved in the accident, which led to a 19-minute and 52-second red-flag period.He was involved in the first of two major crashes at the end of the race. In the second, Kyle Larson's car went into the fence and fans were injured. For more details on the second accident, Annett will travel back to his home in North Carolina today where he will be evaluated again later this week.
