Junior’s fortunes continue to rise. And how.

Junior’s fortunes continue to rise. And how.

Matching his best finish at Auto Club Speedway on Sunday, Dale Earnhardt Jr. ran second to race winner Kyle Busch to capture the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series points standings lead. Earnhardt enjoyed a two-race stint as the points leader last summer. Sunday marked the first time in the driver’s career Earnhardt has headed the standings in consecutive seasons.

Bad luck finally caught up with Brad Keselowski, who gave up the No. 1 spot – and a four-race top-five finishing streak – to a litany of problems that led to a 23rd-place finish.

Easter Week offers teams both family time and the opportunity to regroup for the April 7 STP Gas Booster 500 at Martinsville Speedway.

Here come the Busch brothers. Younger sibling Kyle snapped a 31-race winless drought at Auto Club Speedway. Former NASCAR Sprint Cup champion Kurt finished fifth to give Furniture Row Racing unprecedented back-to-back top-five finishes.

Sam Hornish Jr. is for real. Hornish increased his NASCAR Nationwide Series points lead with a runner-up finish in California – the Ohioan’s third top two and fifth top 10 of the season. Hornish bids to become the first Indianapolis 500 winner to capture a NASCAR national series championship.

NASCAR Camping World Truck Series rookie German Quiroga and veteran Brendan Gaughan head for the April 6 Kroger 250 with different agendas. NASCAR Toyota Series Mexico champion Quiroga will be seeing the paper clip-shaped short track for the first time while Gaughan, who has mixed emotions about Martinsville Speedway, searches for redemption at the 0.526-mile track.
