Crafton’s In The Championship Driver’s Seat
Although
he was collected in the last-lap crash that collected most of the
leaders at Talladega last weekend, points
leader Matt Crafton was able to cross the finish line in ninth and
increase his points lead to 57 over Ty Dillon with four races remaining.
With
Talladega’s aptly-named wild-card race out of the picture, it appears
Crafton can concentrate on maintaining his
advantage – more than one race worth of points (48). The Tulare, Calif.
native is coming to a track this weekend he enjoys, and has an average
finish of 12th with four top-five finishes and 12 top-10s in 23 previous
starts. He finished second to ThorSport
teammate Sauter in the track’s spring race.
James Buescher’s bid to become the series’ first back-to-back champion took a big hit – literally – at Talladega. The
2012 champion finished 26th and dropped from second to third in the standings, 58 points behind Crafton.
