Spoilers Look To Crash The Party In Homestead
Although
Greg Biffle, Carl Edwards, Jeff Gordon and Kurt Busch qualified for the
Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup, all
four arrive in Homestead having already been mathematically eliminated
from contention. Each driver has at least won one race at the 1.5-mile
track and would love to play spoiler this weekend.
Biffle
heads to Homestead seventh in points. He won there in three consecutive
seasons (2004-06); two of those years
(2004 and 2006) he wasn’t in the Chase and played spoiler. His teammate
Carl Edwards has won twice at the South Florida facility. Edwards –
13th in the standings – leads all drivers in eight Loop Data categories,
including driver rating (119.0), finishing
position (5.0), laps in top 15 (1,881) and laps led (560).
Gordon,
who won at Homestead in 2012, was in the title hunt up until two weeks
ago when a 38th-place finish at Texas
derailed his hopes for a fifth championship. He dropped to sixth in the
standings, which is where he currently sits. Sunday marks the 11-year
anniversary of Busch’s only win at Homestead. He would like nothing more
than to win his last race for Furniture Row
Racing. After an eighth-place showing last week, he’s all but locked up
a top-10 spot in the standings and an invite to the NSCS Awards stage.
