People will argue that a driver with championships ,are the best drivers and that's
all that counts.
Others will say it is win's over championships that give greatness.
Let;s see if we can break it down here once and for all.
By the way drivers are voted into the Hall of Fame ,a great honor in Nascar.
Most people believe Mark Martin is a shoe in for the Hall of Fame.
He does not have a championship,has not won the 500,but has around 40 victories at great tracks.And came in second five times losing the championship.
Hall of Famer Rusty Wallace has not won the 500 [Daytona] has a slew of race win's[55] ,no championship,he is in .
The difference Mark just retired ,Rusty has been retired, both deserve Hall of Fame status Period. both are great drivers.looked upon by there peers as great men also.and
have given a lot to NASCAR and drivers ,teams,And owners/FANS..Having a Daytona 500 victory carries a certain amount of weight. Looking at choices, the first thing that comes to mind is number of races won number of titles won; ; then which races. A victory in the 500 is a factor when making comparisons, but not the only factor.
Most get in by win's and attitudes ,driving abilities.Sounds like volume of wins maybe speaks louder to the voters than where you win or the size of your trophy.
