Keselowski hangs tough with fourth-place run at Talladega

Keselowski hangs tough with fourth-place run at Talladega

(October 23, 2011)
TALLADEGA, Ala.—In a race where the watchwords were survive and advance, Brad Keselowski did just that.
In fact, he did more than just survive.
Working all afternoon with Chevrolet driver Dave Blaney, Keselowski surged into fourth place on the final lap of Sunday’s Good Sam Club 500 at Talladega Superspeedway and snagged the best finish among the 12 drivers in the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup.
Keselowski was elated with the result, which allowed him to gain three positions to third in the standings, 18 points behind leader Carl Edwards.
Asked about his thoughts heading into next Sunday’s race at Martinsville Speedway, Keselowski replied confidently.
“We’re still in contention, and we have a damn good shot at winning this championship,” he said.
The race at Talladega couldn’t have played out better for the driver of the No. 2 Dodge.
“This is exactly how we needed to leave Talladega, with a strong finish—gained points on the leader; gained points, really, on all the Chase cars.
“I’m very proud of the effort, proud to have a good day and very fortunate to have missed all the wrecks.”
