NASCAR Week of March 18, 2013
Fear
the Keselowski. That’s how the 2013 season is shaping up as the
reigning NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion took over the standings lead
with a third-place finish in Sunday’s Food City 500 at Bristol Motor
Speedway.
Keselowski
has fashioned four top-five finishes in four races on four distinctly
different track configurations – and with Penske Racing fielding Fords
for the first time since 2002.
The
29-year-old Michigan native, who tied or recorded career-best finishes
at 16 different tracks in 2012, faces yet another challenge on Sunday:
last year’s 18th-place performance is his best at Auto Club Speedway.
Seven
California natives, the most from any state, dominate the entry list
for the Auto Club 400. Three - Jimmie Johnson, Jeff Gordon and Kevin
Harvick - have won a combined nine times in Southern California.
Toyota
Racing Development is based in Southern California’s Orange County but
remains 0-for-10 in Sprint Cup races at Auto Club Speedway. ACS winners
Matt Kenseth, Mark Martin and Kyle Busch are solid bets to get Camry a
“W” on Sunday.
He’s
back and he’s definitely for real. NASCAR Drive for Diversity graduate
Kyle Larson, an Elk Grove, Calif. native, returns home fresh off a
fender-rubbing, finish-line battle with Kyle Busch at Bristol Motor
Speedway. Larson was runner-up in the track’s second-closest NASCAR
Nationwide Series finish and drew accolades from many – including Busch.
Martinsville
Speedway offered NASCAR Camping World Truck Series competitors the
opportunity to test in advance of its April 6 Kroger 250 – a recent
first under new testing guidelines. NASCAR Next9 competitor Chase
Elliott was among those participating.
